Common Questions About Communication Strategy
-
Why work with Maverick instead of going direct to a carrier or vendor?
Going direct usually gets you a sales-led experience. Working with Maverick gets you a supplier-neutral partner who helps you evaluate options, design the right architecture, and coordinate suppliers through implementation and beyond.
Because we work across providers every day, we can often leverage our vendor relationships and market knowledge to help you secure more competitive pricing and cleaner contract terms than you would get on your own. Just as important, we keep the project moving. One team to manage timelines, carrier coordination, porting, cutovers, and escalation when something stalls, so you are not stuck chasing vendors.
-
We still use Mitel MiVoice Connect (ShoreTel). Can you support us?
Yes. We support MiVoice Connect environments today, including helping you stabilize performance, manage adds and changes, and keep critical sites online. We can also map out a phased plan for what comes next, whether that’s staying hybrid for a while, refreshing components, or migrating to a cloud model in stages so you control the timeline and risk.
-
Can we replace our desk phones with Microsoft Teams?
Often, yes, with a few practical considerations. Teams can function as your primary phone system when it’s configured with PSTN connectivity (Operator Connect, Direct Routing, or Calling Plans) and the right licensing and policy setup. Some roles may still need physical devices like common-area phones, reception phones, paging, fax, or analog lines. We help you design the right mix so most users can live in Teams, while edge cases still work reliably.
-
Can you help us choose between Direct Routing and Operator Connect for Teams calling?
Yes. Both are valid. Operator Connect can simplify onboarding and carrier management, while Direct Routing can offer more flexibility for complex call flows, integrations, and certain legacy coexistence needs.
Operator Connect is often a better fit when:
-
You prefer a managed service with minimal technical overhead.
-
Your call flows are simple-to-moderate (IVRs, queues, basic routing).
-
You don’t have legacy PBX or SIP systems you need to keep online.
We’ll evaluate call quality requirements, resiliency, E911 expectations, and how you want to manage carriers and SBCs, then recommend the best fit for your environment.
-
-
Will we lose service during the migration?
A well-run migration is designed to minimize downtime. We build a cutover plan around your business hours, test call flows ahead of time, and coordinate number porting and carrier timelines so there are no surprises. Most organizations can migrate in phases (sites, user groups, or DID ranges) to reduce risk and keep essential teams online throughout.
-
Do you work with government and education agencies?
Yes. We regularly support public sector and education organizations and understand common procurement realities like longer timelines, stakeholder approvals, and compliance requirements. We can also help you align the project approach to how you buy, whether that’s an existing contract vehicle or a formal RFP process.

What is UCaaS (Unified Communications as a Service)?
UCaaS is a cloud-based communications platform that brings together business calling with core features like voicemail, auto attendants, and call routing, plus video meetings, team messaging, and increasingly AI-powered capabilities like call summaries, transcription, intelligent routing, and basic automation. It replaces or reduces reliance on on-prem phone systems and shifts upgrades, maintenance, security patches, and resiliency to the provider.
